The nation observes Constitution Day today, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. The government has launched year-long celebrations, starting today, to honor this milestone. These celebrations will continue until November 26, 2025. It was on this day in 1949 that the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
A grand event is being held at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu will address members of both Houses of Parliament. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will also participate. The gathering will include Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, Heads of Missions based in Delhi, and other dignitaries.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative coin and stamp dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption will be released. Two books, titled “Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse” and “Making of the Constitution of India and its Glorious Journey”, will also be launched. Additionally, the Constitution will be released in Sanskrit and Maithili, along with a booklet focusing on the art of the Constitution.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment first announced Constitution Day on November 19, 2015, with November 26 being designated for annual celebrations.
This year, the campaign tagline is “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan”, reflecting pride in the Constitution and the values it upholds. Millions across India, from schools to offices and villages to cities, will collectively read the Preamble today. To enhance citizen engagement, the government has launched a dedicated website, constitution75.com, featuring interactive activities and resources. Citizens can upload videos of themselves reading the Preamble and receive participation certificates.
The government urges all citizens to join this historic celebration and demonstrate their collective pride in the Constitution and its makers.
