Several parts of the national capital continue to face a water crisis. Meanwhile, the political blame game is rife in the national capital between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP in opposition.
Delhi Cabinet Ministers Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, and Imran Hussain today wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an urgent intervention in getting 100 million gallons per day of water from Haryana.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi, the AAP ministers rejected Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s claim that Haryana is releasing ample water into the national capital. Mr. Rai called upon Mr. Saxena to join the ministers for a visit to the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant.
The Aam Aadmi Party will also hold a candlelight march later in the day in support of Delhi Water Minister Aatishi’s hunger strike at the site of her strike.
On the other hand, the BJP criticised the AAP’s press conference and said that water does not come directly from the Yamuna River in Delhi but through canals, which come regularly.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva told the media that the Wazirabad water treatment plant has 95 per cent silt, which is obstructing the flow of water.
Mr Sachdeva also questioned why the Delhi government has not approached the AAP-run Punjab government for additional water to meet the need during the current water shortage.
