The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been granted an extension until June 15, 2024, by the Supreme Court to vacate its office located at Rouse Avenue in Delhi. This decision comes after the court acknowledged that the land was designated for the expansion of the judicial infrastructure of the Delhi High Court.

Considering the forthcoming general elections, the court emphasized the importance of swiftly utilizing the land for the district judiciary’s expansion and granted AAP the mentioned extension to vacate the premises. The Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, leading the bench, directed AAP to seek allocation of land for its offices from the Land and Development Office, noting that the party lacked a legal right to remain on the current premises.

The bench, which also included Justices P B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, addressed concerns raised by AAP’s senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi regarding the party’s national status and allocation of office space. Singhvi highlighted disparities in office locations among political parties.

Previously, the apex court had instructed the Delhi government and the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to coordinate a meeting for the removal of encroachments by AAP on the land allocated to the high court at Rouse Avenue.
