PM Modi Hails Strong India-Mauritius Partnership, Inaugurates Key Infrastructure Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the burgeoning ties between India and Mauritius, citing an “unprecedented momentum” over the past decade. Emphasizing Mauritius’ significance as a key partner in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, he noted the elevation of mutual cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking during the virtual inauguration of the new Airstrip and St James Jetty, along with six community development projects on Agalega Island, PM Modi underscored the significance of these initiatives in advancing bilateral cooperation and bolstering Mauritius’ blue economy.

PM Modi expressed satisfaction in witnessing the realization of commitments made for the development of Agalega’s people in 2015. He highlighted the frequent engagements between himself and PM Pravind Jugnauth, affirming the robust partnership between India and Mauritius.

Highlighting the multifaceted cooperation between the two nations, PM Modi mentioned recent efforts in enhancing digital connectivity through initiatives like UPI and Rupay Card. He reiterated India’s commitment to aligning its development partnership with Mauritius’ priorities and addressing its needs, including during crises like the Covid pandemic and oil spills.

PM Modi commended Mauritius for becoming the first country to join India’s Jan Aushadhi initiative, which aims to provide high-quality, affordable generic medicines. He lauded PM Jugnauth’s leadership and expressed optimism about further elevating bilateral relations in the future.

Recognizing India and Mauritius as natural partners in maritime security, PM Modi affirmed their shared commitment to ensuring security, prosperity, and stability in the Indian Ocean region. He highlighted cooperation in various areas such as monitoring Exclusive Economic Zones, joint patrolling, hydrography, and disaster relief efforts.

In closing, PM Modi conveyed confidence in the continued growth of India-Mauritius relations, emphasizing their shared vision for a prosperous and secure future.
