Paris Olympics 2024: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Reaches Semi-Finals After Defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in 50kg Freestyle

At the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat beat Oksana Livach of Ukraine 7-5 in the women’s 50kg freestyle quarter-final and advanced to the semi-finals.

Vinesh will face Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez or Gabija Dilyte of Lithuania in the semi-finals today, starting at 10:25 PM IST, at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.

Neeraj Chopra started the in  javelin throw qualification event with a monstrous throw of 89.34m and has qualified for the final.  Whereas Kishore Jena finishes at the 15th  spot in the Group A qualification round.

In Hockey , the  Harmanpreet Singh-led side has put on a spirited show at the current edition so far. They were down to 10 men in the first half of the quarter-final match against Great Britain but put on a defensive masterclass to eventually seal their place in the semi-finals.

Goal Keeper P R Srijesh has kept the team afloat with some brilliant saves throughout the tournament and will play a key role against Germany. Besides, Skipper Harmanpreet is in sublime form and also bagged seven goals and is expected to swell on the crucial day.

India are the most successful hockey nation in Olympic history, having won 12 medals: eight gold, one silver, and three bronze. However, India last featured in the Olympic final 44 years ago at Moscow 1980. The India vs Germany hockey semi-final will be played at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium at 10:30 PM IST today. In Table Tennis, the Indian men’s team bowed out after being clean swept 0-3 by China in their Round of 16 match.
