In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket, Afghanistan defeated Papua New Guinea by 7 wickets in the Group C match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad this morning.
Afghanistan overhauled the target of 96, making it to 101 for 3 in 15.1 overs. Gulbadin Naib remained unbeaten, scoring 49 runs from just 36 balls.
Put in to bat first, Papua New Guinea were bundled out for a paltry score of 95 runs in 19.5 overs.
Fazalhaq Farooqi led the Afghani bowling attack, scalping three wickets while Naveen-ul-Haq bagged two. Farooqi was adjudged the Player of the Match.
With this win, Afghanistan secured a spot in the Super 8 along with the hosts, the West Indies, from Group C. While New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda missed out on advancing to the next round,.

Now the spotlight will be on the second match of the day, where the United States will clash with Ireland in the Group A Clash in Florida.
A victory would secure them a coveted spot in the Super 8, while simultaneously dimming Pakistan’s hopes of advancing to the next round. Positioned just below India, the USA currently holds the second spot in Group A, while Pakistan stands third.
