Two-time champion Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Wimbledon men’s singles event. The 37-year-old, who underwent surgery on a spinal cyst 10 days ago, was due to face Czech opponent Tomas Machac in the first round today on Centre Court.
However, Murray has confirmed to switch his focus to competing in the doubles. Andy has said that he planning to contest the doubles with his brother Jamie Robert Murray.
Andy Murray is a British professional tennis player. He was ranked world No one in singles for 41 weeks in 2016. Murray has won three Grand Slam singles titles, two at Wimbledon, in 2013 and 2016 and one at the US Open in 2012.
The 2024 Wimbledon Championships, a Grand Slam tennis tournament, began yesterday. It is scheduled to be played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon, till 14th of this month.
Rohan Bopanna, Sumit Nagal To Play Men’s Doubles Opening Matches With Their Partners Today
In Wimbledon Open Tennis today, India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Australian companion Matthew Ebden will kick off their campaign in London this evening.
Bopanna and Ebden will take on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Adrian Mannarino of France in the men’s doubles first round. The Indo-Australian duo will be competing as the second seeds in the prestigious tournament.
Another Indian, Sumit Nagal, will also mark his presence in the men’s doubles along with his partner Dušan Lajović of Serbia. They will face the Spanish duo of Pedro Martínez and Jaume Munar in the first round.
Earlier, in the men’s singles first round, second-seeded Novak Djokovic defeated the Czech player Vit Kopriva in straight sets. In women’s singles, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain toppled the women’s defending champion, Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, in straight sets.
